University Recognition
Although the Advanced Diploma in Aviation is an academic qualification, it
is also an industry qualification, as it encompasses Civil Aviation Safety Authority exams
and licences in preparation for a career as a pilot. At course completion, students are
ready to enter their first position as a paid commercial pilot. Some graduates however,
are now choosing to continue their studies and move on to university.
The Western Australian Aviation College is proud to hold university acknowledgement of
the Advanced Diploma and consequently there is now a progressive path available. Murdoch
University has given the Advanced Diploma in Aviation such recognition, that a graduate
may spend 2 further years at university and also gain a Bachelor of Commerce in
Management. This new dual qualification is appealing to many as it offers complementary
and supportive skills; enhancing the possibility of a management position within aviation.

Dual Qualification Course Overview
Aviation is both an exciting and challenging industry. Finding employment
within this industry is competitive and the psychological demands on a pilot are
substantial. Later in their careers, many pilots progress into management roles for which
recognised training is essential and extensive experience vital. The Western Australian
Aviation College offers excellence in pilot training and the opportunity for graduates to
continue their studies in Management at Murdoch University with this dual qualification.
These two highly recognised qualifications can be completed in three years. This
combination will enhance employability and offers far more career opportunity. The
theoretical and practical flying training (Advanced Diploma in Aviation) is completed at
the College facilities, Jandakot Airport using specialists from civil and military
aviation. The Bachelor of Commerce degree in Management follows at Murdoch University.
The Advanced Diploma in Aviation has been developed in consultation with
the aviation industry. The College graduate will have gained an Australian Civil Aviation
Safety Authority Commercial Pilot Licence and hold theory credits for the Command
Instrument Rating. Current certificates for First Aid, Pilot Maintenance and Dangerous
Goods are included. Theoretical training for the Air Transport Pilot Licence is also
provided.

A Dual Qualification

management studies. This will provide a very valuable set of skills for Commercial Pilots
who aspire to management roles in aviation, as well as providing a second qualification for
professional pilots who wish to have an alternative career path available. In addition to
a Commercial Pilot Licence, the Advanced Diploma in Aviation Studies provides the graduate
with the theory training required to hold an Air Transport Pilot Licence. This education
greatly increases graduates employability, by providing career opportunities at all
levels of aviation including major airlines. By being conducted at Australias
busiest airport, it allows students to be immersed in an aviation environment for the
one-year duration of the course. The Commerce degree provides a general education in
management. It is not aviation-specific, so it provides career opportunities in a broad
range of industries, of which the dynamic and highly competitive field of aviation is just
